3 Local Issues You Should Know About

Hello New Visitors! This content will be updated constantly, so keep returning for the latest LOCAL news. If you would like to preview detailed info on a specific public entity, click on menu icon above left.  Also, see our archived meeting videos at our YouTube page here:  Wasatch Taxpayers YouTube page

1. Wasatch County Property Tax Alert! The Legislative Auditor’s Office just released their Property Tax Audit to the Audit Committee on April 17th! It shows many inconsistencies in the county assessor offices around the state, and a lack of oversight by the The Utah Tax Commission who failed for years to ensure a fair and equitable tax system in our County alone!   Click here to see the new audit, and the latest 2023 tax info!

2. Wasatch School District promised no near future tax increases when they passed the $150 MIL lease revenue bond last summer to build another high school. But not even 1 year later, they’re asking for a reported 47% tax increase in the latest 2023 property notice!  Also, it seems the school board hired a new business administrator in May that does not have any finance or accounting experience or education. See the GRAMA request we received for the hiring process, and the other applicants credentials.  Click here to learn more.

3. UDOT asked Wasatch County and the municipalities to hold off an any new annexations, development approvals or conservation easements until they determine their “preferred routes” maybe not until the beginning of next year! How long does the county citizens have to wait to get UDOT to finish their process? Go here for more info.

I just had a hearing for my property tax assessment. It was a joke. The guy hired by the county to make rulings on the hearings was ready to say NO no matter what pertinent information I showed him. He even said, “those are good points, you should take them to your state appeals hearing.”

Can we do a GRAMA request to see the outcome of all of the county tax assessment hearings? I’m guessing he says no close to 100% of the time. If that’s the case, the local hearings are a complete sham.

About three weeks ago in the Wave I was reading the Letters to the Editor and one man said three of the city council members had broken their promises to the people who voted for them. He said that fortunately two of them have chosen not to run for reelection. I would be very interested to know who that third person is so I can be sure not to vote for him.

Our country manager got through a 77% increase in his payroll for the last 2 years

He did this by conning the county commission into doing a study where they hired somebody to review the payroll of the county employees and bring them up to the same rate as the private sector. this is a con job government employees basically have no risk of ever losing their jobs they basically have tenure. They have gold plated health and pension benefits. This does not exist in the private sector ever. They should not make as much as those in the private sector because they don’t have the same risks!

I would like to see who this private contractor was he was basically hired to give them cover to increase their pay exorbitantly.

What are you doing about this?

Are you proposing Any new candidates for the county commissioner or county manager how does that work how do we throw the current government out?
